When authorities warned the community about the coming dangerous storm, her family prepared and heeded the warning that a super typhoon was approaching. They immediately evacuated about 3 km away from where they live on the day
before the storm struck Capiz. The last typhoon that struck and badly damaged that area was 30 years ago. At that time, there were a lot of casualties. Because all of their neighborhood heeded the warning and prepared, this time there were zero casualties. Thankfully, everyone survived. But sadly, after typhoon Haiyan left, all the homes were totally gone and nothing was left. Now families have nothing to eat, no safe drinking water, and all their livelihood equipment such as boats and fishing nets are destroyed and gone.
Merlyn anxiously and patiently waited for help to arrive. She was so thankful and happy to receive food from the ADRA team this afternoon along with 600 other families in Panay. This Barangay has not received any help from other NGOs except from the Local Government Unit's distribution of food three days after the disaster. When the family's food supply had almost run out, ADRA’s food pack was delivered, just in time.
